Leak Repairs

Texas Star Roofing repair technicians are experienced in finding even the most difficult leaks. Our repair policy is as follows. Our minimum charge is $250.00. We find that most repairs fall under the minimum charge. In an attempt to keep our prices low, we like to set our appointments with the understanding that our repair tech has the authorization to complete the repair as long as it falls under the minimum charge. That way, we can do our inspection and make the necessary repairs in one trip, saving time and travel expenses which translate into lower costs for our customers.

If the repair turns out to be more involved and therefore, more expensive, we don’t do anything or charge anything, we simply give a free estimate. We are happy to set appointments if you like. Our repair techs can explain what the problem is and what’s required to make the repair. If you prefer not to take time from work, we can communicate via phone or email to complete the process. This is just one more advantage of dealing with a company that employs a full time office staff.

Our payment terms are due upon completion. We ask that you be prepared to write our technician a check when he finishes the job, or our office staff can take your credit card information over the phone.

Your roof is no different than any other asset you own when it comes to periodic maintenance and repairs. Our climate here in the Dallas area is extremely hard on roofing materials. The heat in the summer is intense, and we get our fair share of ice and snow and cold weather in the winter, not to mention the high winds and hail spring storms bring us each and every year it seems.

The sun dries out the asphalt over time causing the shingles to be come brittle and crack. Also, the granules that are embedded in the asphalt of the shingle tend to release over time exposing the layer beneath to even more punishment. Time is our enemy and eventually roofs fail and need to be replaced.

Simple repairs and maintenance can extend the life of your roof. Some of the most common repairs we run across are listed below.

  1. Caulk dries and pulls away from flashings. In addition to the elements of nature described above, your house moves, due to expansion and contraction. This contributes to the need to re-caulk critical areas from time to time.
  2. Shingles blow off. Even a properly installed roof can experience blow-offs. Over time the asphalt seal strip on the bottom side of the shingle can fail, and once the wind lifts the shingle it will pull through the nails and be gone.
  3. Some pipe flashings are made of lead. For some reason, squirrels are attracted to the lead and they chew away at the pipe flashings rendering them ineffective. When this happens, they must be caulked or, better yet, replaced.  Some new construction or builder grade pipe flashings are plastic and the UV rays of the sun eventually break them down and they too need to be replaced.
  4. Many times we’re called out on a “roof leak” to find it’s not the roof at all. The siding on walls or chimneys can develop leaks, as well as windows or masonry chimneys or chimney caps.
  5. Tree limbs can rub on the roof and cause damage to shingles. The trees need to be trimmed back and the shingles replaced.

It’s a good idea to have a qualified roofing expert inspect your roof every so often in order to address these and other issues as a maintenance project before they turn into a repair.
