My name is Lee Williamson, Jr., aka "Jay" Williamson. I grew up watching my father start his own business and have always looked up to him. When he started Texas Star Roofing, I was just a kid, but I knew that roofing was what I wanted to do once I old enough to contribute to his business.
I started by passing out flyers for Texas Star Roofing when I was 16. After I graduated from Plano Senior High School in 1998, I started Texas Star Guttering. After I had a few years in the gutter business, my father saw how successful we were and decided it would better suit the company to have me concentrate on roofing.
So, in 2003, after a massive hail storm came to through town, I was roofing exclusively. I have been involved in roofing for a long time and have seen a lot of different things in this industry. I pride myself on what I've been taught by my father: "If you're going to do something, do it right." When it comes to being a roofer, I am not just a salesman, I am a roofing contractor. There is a big difference. When a storm hits, it's like suddenly everyone is in the roofing business. In fact, most of the salesmen you talk to were selling pizzas or pushing a lawn mower a week before the storm hit.
I am a CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator. I have met all of the requirements and passed the tests to achieve this status. I have done hundreds and hundreds of roofs in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex and in Houston. I know what to anticipate before the job starts. I have extensive knowledge in all major composite shingles, stone coated steel shingles, faux slate, modified bitumen, single ply membranes, and standing seam roofing systems.
Being a salesman is easy, but being a roofing contractor takes years of commitment to your trade. I make sure everything is addressed before the materials are covered. I also have extensive knowledge when it comes to the insurance industry.
